Sweet Thursday Presents: John King

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Lafayette

Description

Please join us for this talk with John King about his newest book, Portal: San Francisco's Ferry Building and the Reinvention of American Cities.

The Ferry Building built in San Francisco’s Gilded Age with its iconic clocktower was the portal to the world. SF Chronicle Urban Design Critic John King traces its rise, fall, and rebirth, his narrative rich with feats of engineering and civic imagination. Transporting readers across 125 years of history, this tour de force explores the tensions impacting urban infrastructure and public spaces, among them tourism, deindustrialization, development, and globalization. Portal is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of SF and the future of American cities.

Doors will open at 6:45 for guest to enjoy coffee and sweets. Orinda Books will be onsite for book sales.

We recommend the wearing of a facial covering for this event.
