This summer we invite you to the 3rd annual Express Yourself Community Art Installation at Hercules Library!
This year's theme reflects our Summer Reading goal: Level Up. Whether that means growth, transformation, ambition, or something uniquely your own, we want to see your interpretation.
Accepting submissions from August 1-23. In-person voting will begin on August 26 and the winner will be proclaimed during the Reception and Voting Party on August 30.
Requirements:
- The artwork should be able to stand on a 16” easel or independently on our shelves.
- Multi-piece works must be secured onto a single panel that can stand with our easels.
- Please include an Artist Statement (which will be available at the front desk):
- Title of the piece
- Medium (what you used to make the piece: paint on canvas, crayons on paper, etc.)
- Description of your piece and how it relates to the theme “Level Up.”
- All works of art should be made with an audience of all ages in mind. Therefore, please do not include any nudity, violent imagery, or profanity.
- All works of art must comply with the Hercules Public Library Art Exhibit Policy, and must:
- Not be used for religious services or activities
- Not advocate or support any political party or candidate for public office
- Not promote any commercial venture
- Not be obscene or defamatory as defined by the U.S. Supreme Court
- Not advocate breaking the law or disturbing the peace
*All art pieces will be reviewed by library staff before being added to the installation. Staff reserves the right to refuse display if the work does not adhere to the requirements listed above.
Awards:
All participants will receive a certificate of recognition at the end of August.
The winner of the public vote will be awarded a blue ribbon, a certificate of recognition and the option to exhibit their piece in the library for 1 year.
