This book is like the best thing ever

It is 6 CD’s. It is 7 hours 38 minutes long. This fiction is unrealistic; I find this author difficult to listen to. An army of fairy space probes have returned to Earth reprogrammed to destroy Atlantis and only Artemis Fowl can stop them. As he races to save the subaquatic city, he must also combat an onslaught of obsessive compulsive and delusional disorders, both by products of prodigious intellect and immense stress.

I really enjoyed reading this series. The reader was a little weird, though. He read with a different tone and accent than I had in my head when I read the books and it just wasn't as good. I recommend reading the books if you can, not the audiobooks, but the audiobooks weren't terrible. Just not as good as the hardbacks/ebooks. I will say, over time the audiobooks have grown on me, and they really aren't a bad way to start off your Artemis Fowl experience.

In response to all those saying it's unrealistic: It's fiction. It's a children's book. It's FANTASY (mixed with a tad of sci-fi, but only a tad). Yes, I agree that doesn't excuse it from following the rules and even fantasy must make sense, but I don't think it breaks any of the rules it sets. A kid genius? Yes, probably unrealistic (genius on Artemis' level, at least). It's still fiction, so it's acceptable. Fairies? Certainly unrealistic. It's still fiction, and so it's absolutely acceptable! Fairy technology? Unrealistic, but innovative in the genre. Guess what? Still fiction! Yes, some of the explanations are a bit like "I see what you're trying to do here but I really, really don't think that's how it works," but Colfer is trying to make the fairies seem advanced and like they are disproving things that humans believe.

ALL THAT TO SAY. Yes, it's unrealistic, but only in the most purposeful and artistically skillful way. Colfer does a lot of things merely for laugh value, but because of his skill it works! Forget about the 'unrealistic' bits, because guess what? Colfer did it for a reason, he wrote those bits intentionally! The grand finale for the series, for example, seems extremely far-fetched, but that is for a reason! Colfer's big thing is emphasizing Artemis' genius, and one of the ways he does that is by writing the improbable.

I liked this fiction CD. It is unrealistic; but, I enjoyed it anyway. It is too violent for children to listen to. It involves fairies, trolls and other mythical magical creatures. The main character is a emotionally spoiled undisciplined 12 year old human boy. I do not like his character or his actions. Someone needs to say No to him. He needs a good spanking. Nathaniel Parker ably creates voices for characters belonging to a wide range of species-human, fairy, troll, and more-in this first adventure of 12-year-old Irish millionaire supervillain Artemis Fowl, who here sets out to kidnap a fairy.

This is a great book series! Great play on a techy fairy world! The novels are great and the person who narrates the series does a wonderful job!

A fun book for youngsters of any age. I'm 71, for instance, and enjoyed it a great deal.

Alluring, is the perfect word to describe Artemis Fowl. The vulnerable characters and realistic relationships are easy to relate to and sympathize with. The descriptive scenery creates an exquisite mental image. Along with the twists of the plot, Artemis Fowl is quite an enjoyable book. This book stimulated every crack and crevice in my imagination. Eoin Colfer has such a different take on old myths and legends, it’s refreshing. I have never read a book quite like Artemis Fowl. I would recommend this book to those who seek adventure. No matter what age, adventure will lure anyone who craves it.
