"Welcome to Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. The five scouts of Roanoke cabin--Jo, April, Molly, Mal, and Ripley--love their summers at camp. They get to hang out with their best friends, earn Lumberjane scout badges, annoy their no-nonsense counselor Jen. and go on supernatural adventures. That last one? A pretty normal occurrence at Miss Qiunzella's, where the woods contain endless mysteries. Today is no exception. When challenge-loving April leads the girls on a hike up the TALLEST mountain they've ever seen, things don't go quite as planned. For one, they didn't expect to trespass into the lands of the ancient Cloud People, and did anyone happen to read those ominous signs some unknown person posted at the bottom of the mountain? Also, unicorns"-- Provided by publisher.

The graphic novels are wonderful & I love them. This novel attempts to continue to tell stories about the Lumberjanes in the same whimsical manner, but it just falls a bit flat. Instead of playful, it comes across a bit more juvenile. It just didn't capture my interest like the graphic novels. I think kids would enjoy these, but I think I'll skip the others in this series.

The Lumberjanes discover a herd of unicorns grazing next to a gigantic mountain, the top of which cannot be seen. April is adamant about conquering it so she can earn a badge, but she & the rest of the Lumberjanes neglect to read the weathered signs that warn of danger. The mountain disappears, stranding the group above the clouds.

I did love this quote:
"...Ripley, shooting up into the air and pointing over April's shoulder, screamed probably one of the top ten words a person can possibly scream.

This was a fun, quick read that builds a world I would very much like to spend some more time with. The number of characters seems a little overwhelming at first, but they quickly become identifiable. The premise is charming and the goofs are good. There are good lessons to be told here and they are delivered with grace and wit. Also the names of the badges are a blast.

Smelly unicorns were a delight, and I really loved all the silly puns. A sweet story with lots of great friendship moments, and Tamaki did a great job of capturing the graphic novel characters' personalities.
