"Nya Jerami fled Thesolo for the glitz and glamour of NYC but discovered that her Prince Charming only exists in her virtual dating games. When Nya returns home for a royal wedding, she accidentally finds herself up close and personal--in bed--with the real-life celebrity prince who she loves to hate. For Johan von Braustein, the red-headed step-prince of Liechtienbourg, acting as paparazzi bait is a ruse that protects his brother--the heir to the throne--and his own heart. When a royal referendum threatens his brother's future, a fake engagement is the perfect way to keep the cameras on him. Nya and Johan both have good reasons to avoid love, but as desires are laid bare behind palace doors, they must decide if their fake romance will lead to a happily-ever-after." -- Page [4] cover.

This is my first read of the Reluctant Royals series and I loved it! A nice escapist read because the characters are royal and the settings are exotic, but it still felt so real to me. Believable people with a relationship that develops naturally, plus it's hot, hot, HOT.

Review excerpt: "Reading "A Prince on Paper" by Alyssa Cole is like being wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket. It’s filled with some of my favorite tropes, demonstrates enthusiastic opt-in consent, and features the heroine’s network of supportive female friends. It was great until I reached the end, which felt too rushed.

You don’t have to read the other Reluctant Royals books before you start A Prince on Paper (this is book three), but they will introduce the supporting cast and set up some context."

kimgenly has an excellent summary of the plot here - this book could have been just full of tropes and silliness, but it was SO. MUCH. BETTER. I couldn't put it down as I needed to see what happened to Johann and Nya, and then some of the other subplots, my goodness, brilliant!! Amazing!! This was a fitting end to the trilogy!

This book takes the sometimes delicious and sometimes groan-worthy tropes of your standard romance novel and updates them with themes of consent, fairly realistic portrayals of people recovering from abuse, has a wonderfully diverse and well-rounded cast, POSITIVE TAKES ON THERAPY, and even a hugely wholesome LGBTQ+ subplot. I was surprised and delighted. I may have to go back for the other books in this series.

Everyone loves a good opposites attract story, right? Well, here's one involving the oft soft-spoken cousin to the new princess of an African nation and the prince's outrageous BFF (also a prince, though not set to inherit the crown). When they keep getting thrown together at the royal couple's nuptial celebration, they not only deal with their attraction, but find themselves in a fake engagement. (I LOVE a fake engagement story, especially when it involves royalty.) Nya and Johan help each other be their best selves, and it's wonderful to watch them fall in love. It's the third in a series, wrapping up the Reluctant Royals story for now, but it's pretty easy to jump into...though you'll want to start from the beginning if you haven't read the other two books and two bonus novellas.
