I have always liked Denise Mina's writing but this book captured my interest early and did not let it go. I read it in a day and half. I could not put it down. The story is original but also gripping. Highly recommend it.

I honestly can't pinpoint a reason I didn't like this book. Maybe the sheer impossibility of it, the evil murderous villain or the plot twist at the end. It was a quick read, because I was genuinely interested in how it would end. The narrator's voice is interesting. But overall, wasn't a favorite, especially for a Reece Witherspoon book club pick.

A true-crime podcast sets a housewife's present life on a collision course with her secret past.

Fresh characters, fast paced, funny. After searching for too long I have found my new favourite mystery writer - gotta go start more Mina books!

As a Reese Witherspoon Book club pick I had high hopes for this book. It started out well enough. Unfortunately, there were many typos and I found some things worded strangely. Some of the action scenes were confusing in the way in which they were written and didn't make much sense. I found so much of the story too implausible. I think the author tried to cram too much into the somewhat short length of this book. If more details and thought had been included perhaps it would have been more believable that the characters made some of the conclusions they did. If you are an avid reader, like myself, you will find many flaws in this book and I recommend you skip it.

This was great, I really enjoyed the mystery and the characters. There were a few spots where I laughed out loud, and even at the end I was surprised who the bad guy was. I finished the whole thing in 24 hours.

Clever, enjoyable. The podcast theme makes this a very contemporary detective thriller

An excellent thriller with great writing, plot, and twists. Powerful, nasty villains and spunky, underdog heroine. I like the anorexic character and the protagonist's relationship with him. The provoking theme of sexual abuse and cover-up is timely and important as is the use of podcasts in propelling the story. Received starred reviews from: Booklist, Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and Library Journal!

After finishing this book I still don't know if I enjoyed it at all. It just went back and forth - tried to cover too many issues, rape and the me too movement, divorce, eating disorders, murder for hire, podcasts you name it, I think it was covered. Way too much!!! By the end I really didn't care about any of the people involved in this story. Also don't think I will be reading other books by this author.

"[Suicide] is a passing impulse, a signal that change is needed. [...] I was in the afterwards, it was glorious, and a lot of people didn't make it here." p371

If I told you their names you'd think you know me. You don't. I'm not going to talk about that night at the hotel in Soho. I will not name the footballers. I will not specify which London club they played for. You can go elsewhere for all of that. pg. 177

Instagram made me do it. I was influenced to read Conviction by Reese Witherspoon and I checked it out from my public library. There is so much mystery and wittiness in the book and I just loved the relationship between the characters Anna and Fin! As an ESL reader the book was perfect for me to read. The vocabulary was rich and challenging yet it did not intimidate me.

Conviction is a fast paced mystery, a total page turner and one of those books that you just have to grant yourself five more minutes. Then the day is over and you read until your eyes can't stay open.

Anna McDonald is obsessed with reading and listening to true crime podcasts (who isn't). One early morning before her husband and her girls wake up she is listening to an episode about a murder mystery on a sunken yacht, The Dana. The doorbell rings, Anna opens the door and it's her best friend with a suit case. At that same time her husband is coming down the stairs also with a suitcase. He is leaving Anna for her best friend and he is taking the girls. He can't deal with Anna's strange personality. Anna has a history. Mystery #1!

To self medicate Anna continues to listen to the podcast and realizes that she knows the man who was murder on The Dana. To take her mind off her personal tragedy Anna takes it upon herself to solve the murder on The Dana by investigating and traveling all over Europe. Mystery #2!

I really enjoyed reading this book, I was completely invested in trying to solve the mystery before Anna and Fin did.

There is a Trigger Warning that I want to caution you about. I'm not sure if it would spoil the book so let me know if you want me to tell you what it is.
