Personal thoughts: The way this memoir was written, it seemed as if Valerie Zenatti's two year experience in the Israeli Army was just a stint at a summer camp. It wasn't like any other Army experience I've ever read about. She was given so many chances to go home and spend time with friends and family and she was able to get out of a 15 mile run with her pack by popping the lens out of her glasses and feigning blindness. She got away with it too, which surprised me even more. Over all, I felt like her experience was a walk in the park, when I was expecting something a lot more rough. It was well written, though, and may still inspire or interest other readers, though it did little to interest me.
