Add a CommentThe premise here is that the Labrador breed lives by a set of rules called the Labrador Pact, which says the Family is all-important and the dog must act at all times to protect and support the Family. Prince is being mentored by Henry, a venerable golden lab who is a wise sage. Cracks begin to form in Prince's family and when Henry disappears, Prince is lost. He takes matters into his own hands, er, paws, and then must accept the dire consequences. This book was a bit reminiscent of 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' but with a more believable personality and less philosophizing, also not as heart-wrenching. The writing flows nicely and results in a very quick, easy read. There are inclusions of other breeds and their personalities that give the story a bit of depth and an alternative perspective to the events.
Heart-wrenching, a story that may bring tears to pet owners, but also a chilling tale of loyalty.
