As I was reading it, I wondered where Sternbergh got his inspirations from? Australia, where the British Empire used to sent its worst criminals? Current research into how memory works? Mad scientists trying to play God? Ruthless billionaire buying and manipulating our governments? Nevertheless, it is well written, with the exceptions of a few places where Sternbergh was describing the inner thinking of a few of the characters. The narratives got bogged down and perhaps he should have just let their actions carry the plot?
