Chief of Station, Congo
Chief of Station, Congo A Memoir of 1960-67 By Devlin, Larry Book - 2007 | 1st ed.

A most interesting and fascinating book, where the CIA station chief, Larry Devlin, accurately states that the Eisenhower Administration ordered the murder of President Patrice Lumumba by Devlin but, no assassin he, Devlin procrastinates then ignores the order. [Mr. Lumumba was later killed by a Katangan firing squad under the control of Joseph Mobotu (Mobotu Seseke), then the head of Lumumba's personal bodyguard.]
Some of the opinions on President Lumumba rendered by American politicians [like Dillon] are both poorly informed and slanted towards his removal. Lumumba had been poorly treated by the Eisenhower Administration and was slanting towards the Soviets to bid up his leverage. [The Congo being where the most potent type of uranium was to be found: please see Susan A. Williams outstanding book, Spies in the Congo.]
One finds in this book how Allen Dulles, CIA director, communicated directly with Gen. Lemnitzer, Joint Chiefs of Staff [Pentagon] when Dulles was supposed to report to either the NSC or directly to the president [at the president's discretion] while Lemnitzer [whom JFK would NOT reappoint] should have communicated only to the Secretary of Defense!
Clearly, Dulles was running a shadow government or deep state operation, not as the government was supposed to be functioning.
Devlin's account of the ordered assassination of Lumumba [he stated a senior CIA officer, a chemist, delivered the poisons to him - - we can surmise this to have been Sidney Gotlieb] differs greatly from Richard Helms' recollection in his autobiography - - but Helms was a notorious liar who illegally destroyed most of the incriminating MK ULTRA files stored at the Chestnut Lodge Sanitarium [formerly existing at Rockville, Maryland, one of the MK ULTRA experimentation sites].
Not covered in this book, but comes from reliable sources, was that a CIA contract assassin, Mozes Maschkivitzan [QJ/WIN] was dispatched to the Congo - - perhaps as the payoff contact between the Belgian mining companies and Mobotu as Maschkivitzan was a Belgian? This corresponds to a FOIA'd declassified CIA document: an inquiry from the deputy director as to the whereabouts of Mozes Maschkivitzan - - on file at the Mary Ferrell Foundation.
